Corrective treatment
Chemical peels in Salt Lake City
Brighter, smoother, more even-looking skin through the winter, with a peel matched to what your skin can take that day.
Book a peelIn my studio in South Salt Lake. A chemical peel is a cosmetic service, not a medical treatment.
What a peel does
A peel loosens the dead, dull cells on the surface of your skin so they shed faster. What comes through is smoother, brighter and more even, and your skincare works better on it. Winter is a good season for it: less sun, and results by spring.
I only use professional peels as their maker directs, inside the limits Utah sets for a master esthetician (R156-11a-610).
Intro or Advanced
The Intro peel is gentle: a glow, smoother texture, and little or no flaking. It is the right first peel for most people. The Advanced peel is stronger and works on uneven tone and rougher texture; expect a few days of light peeling. If you are not sure, book the Intro, and I will tell you at the visit whether the Advanced is right for next time.
The patch test
Before the first peel of a series I do a small patch test, so we both know how your skin answers. Utah requires one before any chemical peel series (R156-11a-610), and I would do it anyway.
Who should wait
Peels suit most skin. Wait, or text me first, if:
- You have taken isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last six months.
- You have used a retinoid in the last few days, or had waxing on your face this week.
- You have a sunburn, a fresh tan, a cold sore or open skin.
- You are pregnant or nursing: some acids are fine and some are not, so we choose together.
The 45 minutes, and after
I cleanse and prep your skin, apply the peel and watch it the whole time, then finish and protect with SPF. You may feel warmth or tingling. Afterwards your skin may feel tight for a day; with the Advanced peel, light flaking usually starts on day two or three. Do not pick it. Wear SPF every day, keep your skincare gentle for a few days, and text me if anything feels wrong.
Most people see the most change from a series of three, two to four weeks apart.
Questions people ask me
Will I peel?
With the Intro peel, little or not at all. With the Advanced peel, expect light flaking for a few days, usually starting on day two or three.
Which one should I book?
If it is your first peel with me, book the Intro. I will tell you at the visit whether the Advanced is right for next time.
How often can I get a peel?
A series of three, two to four weeks apart, then every month or two to keep the results.
Do I need a patch test?
Yes, before the first peel of a series. Utah requires it, and it tells us both how your skin answers.
Can I wear makeup after?
Wait until the next day, and keep it gentle while your skin is flaking.
Is a peel safe for darker skin?
Yes, when it is the right peel. I choose the acid and the strength for your skin, and we go gentler first.
